A Conversation with Brian Tracy
I had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Tracy.
If you are an inspiring entrepreneur, if you’re someone who says “I know I can have more in life,” then this is the intel you need.
In my early twenties, my life changed because of exposure to two books that got me fascinated during a time in my life when I didn’t know what I was going to do. One of the books was “Think and Grow Rich”, and the second book was “How to Win Friends & Influence People.”
The reason these pieces of literature were so important to me is that I truly believe that we only become what we read about, what we think about the most, and what we choose to study and take notes on.
Ironically during that time, I was also introduced to books from Brian Tracy. The reason these pieces of literature were so important to me is that I truly believe that we only become what we read about, what we think about the most, and what we choose to study and take notes on.
He teaches techniques and strategy for great success in sales, time management, self-development, personal wealth, business, leadership, and much more.
Brian Tracy is the author of over ninety books that have been translated into dozens of languages. He teaches techniques and strategy for great success in sales, time management, self-development, personal wealth, business, leadership, and much more.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Brian earlier this month, and we covered a lot of great topics.
If you are an inspiring entrepreneur, if you’re someone who says “I know I can have more in life,” then this is the intel you need.
You Become What You Think About
If you think successful thoughts, you become successful. If you think negative thoughts, you become negative.
This is a great discovery that goes back 4,000 years. The thoughts you think about become your realities. If you think successful thoughts, you become successful. If you think negative thoughts, you become negative.
Information Is Everywhere
Any subject that you would like to become knowledgeable on has been written about. Someone who has already become successful has figured it out, written about it, and is ready to share it with you. This can save you years of hard work.
Make the Decision to Succeed
There are 7 reasons why people become wealthy, and 7 reasons why they don't. The number one reason why they don't is that they don't decide to.
If you want to become a self-made millionaire, it's quite simple. You make the decision to do it. There are 7 reasons why people become wealthy, and 7 reasons why they don't. The number one reason why they don't is that they don't decide to.
Today, there are more than 30 thousand self-made millionaires
There is more potential to become wealthy in America today than in all of human history. The opportunities are continuing to open up. Today, there are more than 30 thousand self-made millionaires. Someone, somewhere in America is becoming a millionaire every 20-30 seconds. You can do it. It's simply a matter of making that decision.
The Law of the Excluded Alternative and Success Habits of Millionaires
In Brian Tracy's research and interviews with millionaires and billionaires, he discovered that there were commonalities in their success habits. These habits included:
They study 60 - 90 minutes a day.
They exercise 30 - 60 minutes a day.
They get up before 6:00am and they immediately go to work on themselves.
They review their goals and plan their day.
Successful People Are Described as Highly Productive
Successful people use their time well. They use their time as a precious element. They do everything possible to produce as much value as they possibly can.
The Only Limitations Are Your Own
The possibilities and opportunities are endless. The only limitations are the ones that you place on your own thinking.
What Are You Worth?
Be honest with where you are now, and from there you'll know how far you have to go in order to meet your goal.
Write down what you're worth now. How much money would you have if you sold everything?
Don't delude yourself. Be honest with how much you have. Successful people are very honest and very realistic. You may look at your numbers and say "these numbers suck." That's okay.
Be honest with where you are now, and from there you'll know how far you have to go in order to meet your goal.
The Importance of Goals
You need to be writing down your goals every day. That yellow pad and pen should become your best friend. Write your goals down, organize them, and work on what is most important.
Be Present
Make a list of 10 goals that you would like to accomplish in 12 months. Now, this isn't just another to-do list. There's a special way that you write these goals, and it's a three-piece: Present tense, positive, and personal.
For instance, don't say "I will become a self-made millionaire." Instead, say, " I am a self-made millionaire by x date."
Pick A Goal
Which one goal would change your life for the best? Put a circle around it. It's easy as one, two, three...
Within your list of 10 goals, pick the goal that would have the greatest and most positive impact in your life. Which one goal would change your life for the best? Put a circle around it.
On a clean sheet of paper, make another list of at least 20 activities you need to do in order to achieve that goal.
Ask yourself out of those 20 activities, which activity will move you toward your goal the fastest. Put a circle around that, and work on it every day.
Visualize It
One of the big tricks to regain focus and continuing to make progress is to visualize your goals.
It's normal to get comfortable- to get complacent and not challenge yourself any further. It's normal to lose focus. One of the big tricks to regain focus and continuing to make progress is to visualize your goals. Visualize them in the present tense. Set a picture in your mind. Set the goal. Set the date. What you think about comes about.
The Most Important Success Principal
Anybody can do things when it's easy, and when it's fun. We get it. A lot of things aren't fun. A lot of things aren't easy. You're tired. But that's when you need to call on the power of self-discipline the most. If you say you're going to do it, do it.
The most important success principle is self-discipline. This can best be defined as "your ability to do what you know you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not." Everything is captured in "whether you feel like it or not." Anybody can do things when it's easy, and when it's fun. We get it. A lot of things aren't fun. A lot of things aren't easy. You're tired. But that's when you need to call on the power of self-discipline the most. If you say you're going to do it, do it.
Here are a few final notes to leave you with...
Form good habits, and make them your masters.
Everything is hard before it's easy.
Do the worst first. Just do it.
When you do something that's good for yourself (through self-discipline) it makes you happy.
When you think it, ink it. Write it down.
With these types of thoughts and affirmations, your future is unlimited.
